History
The University of Tolima (UT) is an academic institution of Colombian higher education of public character, subject to inspection and surveillance through Law 1740 of 2014 and Law 30 of 1992 of the Ministry of Education of Colombia. Headquartered in Ibague, capital of the Department of Tolima, which bears its name. It Is considered the "Best University in the region ". In Its main office it has 5 technological programs, 30 of undergraduate and 35 of postgraduate, some in presence mode and others in distance modality in different regions of the country. It Was founded on May 21st, 1945.
General Principles
Consistent with the mission it has as an institution of higher education, the University orders its doing based on the interaction of the following general principles:
Ethics. The University will be guided by universal moral principles, which commit all the members of the Institution.
Universality. The University will be open to the development, diversity and plurality of universal thought, without censorship or dogmatism. The Institution, as such, will not assume particular ideological positions, except those that commit it to universally valid values.
Rationality. The University must always, think, evaluate and act in accordance with the principles of optimization and consistency, to achieve its objectives. It will tend to achieve the best results by optimizing its resources.
Autonomy. For the fulfillment of its mission, objectives and policies, the University will act independently of the fragmented and immediate interests of the political power and the society. Only on this basis, the University, according to the law, will issue its internal rules, make its decisions and develop its activities.
Democracy. The Government and the management of the University involve the participation of the university community in the multiple decisions and deliberations of the University daily life, as well as the representation estates in the collegiate organizations of management. This Democratic exercise will seek consensus and agreements, demanding the inalienable respect of difference and minority positions, as well as individual and constitutional liberties.
Subordination to the public interest. The decisions and university actions always privilege the public interest on any other of private nature, of people and sectors of inside and outside the Institution. This implies that the University will establish as part of this principle, the accountability and the report of social balance; That is, it communicates the impact of the University on the society.
Fitness. The qualities and labour competencies of the people shall constitute the basic criteria for making decisions such as: their connection to the university; Appointments at any level; Academic or employment accreditation; Promotions, access to distinctions and opportunities, and assignment of special responsibilities.
Social Commitment. The University will act with a spirit of solidarity in favour of the most vulnerable sectors of the social fabric, in defense and development of democracy, public interest, equality, freedom and justice.
Principles of Institutional Action
Quality. The University is to seek excellence in quality and continuous improvement of processes.
Equity. The University will seek a fair distribution of the benefits and responsibilities generated by its activity, and lead the actions that are within their reach in the perspective of equitable access to higher education of the population of the region.
Sustainability. All the processes and actions that the University carries out must be thought critically and as means towards the end of the construction of an increasingly balanced society and with responsibility with respect to the future generations.
